Senior EMEA Appointment Announced by Nuance

Peter MacKinnon Joins Nuance as Senior Vice President and General Manager to Capitalise on Market Growth Opportunities and Drive Growth Across EMEA

London, UK – 26 November 2009 – Nuance Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: NUAN) today announced a senior appointment to its EMEA management team. Peter MacKinnon joins Nuance as Senior Vice President and General Manager EMEA, reporting to Steve Chambers, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Chief Marketing Officer. With the objective of building on the success Nuance has already achieved in expanding its presence globally - and to satisfy the growing demand for its speech, imaging and healthcare solutions - Mr MacKinnon will work closely with Nuance partners, customers and prospects across EMEA, to capitalise on new growth opportunities and drive further adoption of speech and imaging applications. Mr MacKinnon’s appointment is effective immediately, and will liaise with all Nuance teams in the EMEA offices.

Mr. MacKinnon has 20 years experience in the telecommunication industry, and has a track record of growing revenues, forming industry partnerships, and establishing and executing go-to-market strategies. He has consistently delivered results in the creation of new business. Mr. MacKinnon has a wealth of experience working in international markets, and has a rich understanding of global business and local market needs. He has lived in the UK and had two assignments in France and has also lived in Singapore and Seoul. His international exposure has led to a proven knowledge in leading, motivating and inspiring multi-cultural teams.

Mr MacKinnon brings deep expertise and proven results through decades of experience in the industry, and most recently served as Chairman and President for LG-Nortel, a joint venture between these industry giants. During his tenure, he ensured revenue growth from $500m to over $1b, and secured LG-Nortel’s status as number one in the domestic market. This role followed a distinguished career at Nortel that spanned more than 20 years, in which he held general management as well as senior sales and marketing roles.

Mr MacKinnon holds a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, and a Master's degree in Business Administration, both from McGill University, Montreal. He is married to Karen, and they have three children.
