Key Features
  • Web Interface Provides Ease of Access
PowerScribe Workstation has been designed on a Web architecture to fit today's IT requirements. Pathologists open a browser and connect to a Web server to gain access to their unique profiles and all the speech recognition functionality. The user interface is clear and easy-to-use, presenting all essential information in understandable windows and tabs. This architecture also enables convenient connection from home or remote locations for review and signing of reports.
  • Information at a Glance
When interfaced with a hospital or clinical information system, PowerScribe Workstation presents pathologists with a comprehensive visit list of patients needing dictation. Selecting a patient populates patient information on screen and attaches it to the dictated voice file, eliminating the need for manual or verbal entry of demographic data. pathologists can easily search through information to create new reports for addenda.
  • Report Templates & Shortcuts Enhance Productivity
One of the biggest documentation timesavers for pathologists is use of standard text blocks (e.g., "review of systems") as well as specific report templates. These shortcuts can be created for individual pathologists or for group use.

Standard text is invoked through voice commands, and form fill-in is all accomplished with a microphone button and voice input. No keyboarding involved! Also, all shortcuts are fully editable through voice. Additional dictation can be appended to the standard text, so pathologists are not constrained.

The result is a significant reduction in doctor dictation time. The combination of standard text shortcuts and speech recognition for free text turns pathologists into power dictators.
  • User Editing Choices
Nuance recognizes that despite extremely high speech recognition accuracy, some report editing is needed, and that users may also have personal preferences in how reports are processed for completion. PowerScribe Workstation editing tools have been designed for ease, speed, and choice. Two editing modes match user preferences:
    • Real-Time Recognition with Self-Editing
PowerScribe Workstation is optimized for "once-and-done" real-time speech recognition, where the doctor can view recognized text upon completion of dictation, and then select from two modes of editing as desired:
      • Keyboard Editing
Using familiar mouse and word processor tools.
      • Voice Editing
Using voice commands and microphone controls to correct and navigate the document. In this mode, changes and additions anywhere in the report can be spoken and immediately recognized. Most pathologists find this method to be comfortable and rapid, while offering maximum costs savings through transcription savings.
    • Speech Recognition With Delegated Editing
PowerScribe Workstation does not force pathologists to edit their own reports. Any recognized draft report can be automatically forwarded to a transcriptionist/editor for correcting and formatting. This option greatly reduces transcription time and costs since reports no longer have to be manually typed from scratch. Voice and recognized text are linked for added accuracy and increased editing efficiency.
